In one of my earlier articles I posted a number of tasty salad recipes.

Now when it comes to nutrition the most common topic talked about is meal prep. Creating time by investing energy in routine task such as cooking, cutting and packaging meals has the power to help you shape your results in the kitchen. The same is possible when we talk about salads. With an objective to provide you with 6 Time Saving Salad Making Tools get ready to sharpen your knives.

This time is yours.

Anatomy of a Salad

With some creativity you can begin to breakdown some components of an outstanding salad. We can add in a variety of fibrous greens or even add a little pop of color to prevent the dish from looking flat. Crunch can ramp up texture along with using an assortment of leaves and other vegetables. The anatomy of a salad will vary for each chef in the kitchen yet I wanted to put a little flare on the thought required when you are making your own nutrient packed bowl of goodness.

1 – Color

Most salads are green in nature. Adding in leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, lettuce or some assortment of them. Adding in color by using other vegetables not only can increase the nutrient quality of the dish yet it provides a pop to the eyes. When you are making your dishes this is something to keep in mind.

2 – Flavor

What flavor do you want with your bowl? With creativity you can add in herbs and spices to change the taste of a traditional leafy plate. You can use zesty fruits, roots or even vegetables that have a kick such as radish or onions to a flat leafy bowl. What ever your objective is you have the ability to add variety of taste to what you have in front of you.

3 – Texture

From leafy in nature to crunchy in bite texture is the next component to consider. Some vegetables to think of that can add a mix of crunch to your salad bowl include carrots, beets, broccoli, radish and peppers. More options are available. Think outside of the box when you are aiming to add a bit of texture to your salad bowl.

When you have a base like this to work from the next step to save time in making your salads is great tools to use in the kitchen.

Food Processor or Vegetable Chopper

Chopping and dicing fruits and vegetables can be quite time consuming. When you are making large bowls of salad to eat throughout the week just by having many of your common vegetables chopped and ready can saving you hours of cutting time in the kitchen.

Depending on your preference you can find food processor and chopper options available online such as the Hamilton Beach Food Processor, Cuisinart DFP-14BCNY 14-Cup Food ProcessorVidalia Chopper, & Slicer or Ninja Master Prep Professional Chopper.

Salad Spinner

Used as a quick water drainer salad spinners are ideal for drying large loads of green leafy vegetables for your tasty salad bowls. Thinking of time saving when washing and drying lettuce or spinach leaves, you can end up using ample amounts of towels or paper towels to reduce excess water. Having excess water in your bowls can change the taste of dressings. This tool reduces water and can help save hand drying time when focused on salad making.

Some options available include The OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner, The 5-Liter Salad Spinner, OXO Steel Salad Spinner or Cave Tools 4.2 Quart Salad Spinner.

Dispenser or Dressing Bottle

Dispensers or dressing bottles allow you to carefully pour the ideal amount of oil, vinegar or other delicious topping to your salads. I cannot count on the number of times large spills take place in the kitchen from unfiltered lids. Excessive amounts of oils in a dish increases total calories which can go against a fat loss or weight loss goal. In ability to evenly pour creates inaccuracy in nutrition. Using a dispenser simplifies this process.

Some great options available include The World’s Greatest Store’N Pour Oil Bottle, JustNile’s Modern Stainless Steel Salad-Dressing Oil and Vinegar Cruet Bottles or Juvale’s 5.5oz Oil and Vinegar Cruets.

Mandoline Slicer or Grater

When it comes to chopping and slicing another great tool to use is a Mandoline Slicer or a grater. Tomatoes, cucumbers and cabbage can take a fair bit of time to slice. It can be challenging to make even slices when you are creating bulking dishes of salads. To save energy and time utilizing this tool ensure your food is cut to perfection and meets the needs you are looking for.

Some options available include Yakatto’s Mandoline Slicer + Peeler,  TechCulinary’s V Blade Stainless Steel Mandoline Slicer or Benriner Mandoline Slicer.

Serving Bowls

Used to toss and serve salads these are a must in the process of meal preparation. When you are mixing leafy vegetables together with oils, vinegar or other dressing you need to have it in something large enough to toss. Small bowls in mixing make spills easier. Finding larger bowls that are non-stick or are easy to clean can make your cleaning process a breeze.

Some tools to use include Lipper International’s Three Piece Wave Bowl with Servers, Red Co.’ s Large Clear Glass Wavy Serving/Mixing Bowl or Clean Dezign’s Large Serving and Salad Bowl with Servers and Bamboo Lid.

Salad Servers or Tongs

Toss salads can be done with tongs or salad servers. The benefit of using these with mixing bowls is to avoid excess spills or dirty hands. Oils and liquids on hands are not necessary when you are using the ideal equipment. Salad making requires efficiency, tongs and salad servers can assist in accomplishing that.

Some options that are great to use include Elite Kitchenware’s Stainless Steel Tongs Set – Salad Tongs, Aqua Sky Silicone Cooking Feeding Tongs or Ironwood Gourmet’s 28125 Large Salad Utensil Set, Acacia Wood.
